Mazal Tov to David Montefiore! He has been awarded the WSET Diploma. The Wine & Spirit Education Trust, based in London, is arguably the world's most famous wine school. Montefiore joins winemaker Eran Pick M.W., sommelier Gal Zohar, lawyer Chaim Helfgott Helfgott and sommelier Orr Reches, as the only five Israelis to earn this distinction to date. Before even sitting the Diploma, potential graduates have to go through three stages, WSET Level 1,2 & 3. The Diploma, which is Level 4, itself takes two and a half years.
David Montefiore previously worked as wines & spirits manager and sommelier at leading Tel Aviv restaurants such as Tapeo, Yaffo Tel Aviv and Toto. He has overseas winery experience in both Australia and Spain, working for Rocland Winery in the Barossa Valley and Celler Capcanes in Montsant. When he returned to Israel he became the Wine Culture Manager of Tabor Winery and he is now Wine Department Manager of IBBLS, owners of Tabor and importers for Diageo in Israel. He has recently set up their new import division, and they now import wines from Spain, Italy, France and California.
He is pictured with his father, Adam Montefiore, and sister, Rachel Montefiore, who also work in the wine trade.
