Carmel Winery has hosted a three day residential seminar for wine waiters from the Isrotel Hotel chain. The seminar was organized by Carmel?s professional wine department, in association with Ramat Gan College, who run their own year long Wine Academy Course. The seminar took place at Carmel?s Center for Wine Culture at Zichron Ya?acov Wine Cellars. This was the first time a residential wine seminar was held in Israel.

The participants had an opportunity to learn about production from visiting local vineyards and Carmel?s large and boutique wineries. They also learnt about wine service, matching food and wine, and managing wine in a restaurant and banquet situation. The students stayed at the Ahuzat Zamarin Hotel in the center of Zichron Ya?acov. Their meals were held at Bistro de Carmel, situated at the winery and at Adama Restaurant at Givat Zamarin.

The tutors were Amos Ravid, Carmel?s wine education manager, David Gronich, wine consultant for Hotels & Restaurants and Yiftach Peretz, winemaker of the Zichron Ya?acov Winery. They were accompanied by Ruth Ben Israel, a sommelier trained in Italy, and Valerie Hecht, who together manage ?Carmel Wine & Culture.? Carmel plan to hold more residential courses in future to advance wine knowledge and wine culture in Israel.
