?The European Union are trying to get their member states to mark produce from the Israel area of Yehuda & Shomron, aka the West Bank, as ?Produce of the West Bank? or ?Israeli Produce of the Occupied Palestian Territories.?

Most of the Israeli wine industry is based in undisputed Israel. However, if this proposal is accepted, the ruling has the potential of affecting some promising wineries in the central mountains area. Wineries like Har Bracha, Gvaot, Tanya, Domaine Ventura & Psagot (north of Jerusalem), Arza, Zion & 1848,(east of Jerusalem), Gush Etzion & Hevron Heights (south of Jerusalem), are in the area under scrutiny.

The urge to plant vineyards and make wine in these Biblical hills, is recreating the wine industry written about so much in the Bible. Labeling for political reasons may damage sales in Europe, but conversely it may increase sales in the United States where some local Jewish communities will want to be supportive. In the meantime, the wineries await to see what transpires.
