New from the Golan Heights Winery more »

The Golan Heights Winery has launched a new vintage sparkling ros? made by the traditional or classic method. It will be called Yarden Ros? 2008 and it joins the Yarden Blanc de Blancs 2007 and the Gamla Shmura Brut N.V. in the range of sparkling wines produced by the winery.????

?Yarden Ros? is elegant, with a delicate berry aroma and an attractive salmon pink color. It is made 70% from Chardonnay grapes and 30% from Pinot Noir. Both varieties are grown in the cool climate, high altitude, northern Golan Heights. It retails at 140 ILS a bottle. (The Yarden Blanc de Blancs costs 130 ILS a bottle, and the Gamla Brut 69 ILS.)

?The Golan Heights Winery has been the pioneer of quality Israeli sparkling wines. In the early 1990?s they sent their new young winemaker, Victor Schoenfeld, to work for six months at Jacquesson Champagne to learn the secrets of the ?champenoise.? The winery then purchased all the modern equipment to allow them to make genuine champagne method sparkling wine. Their efforts resulted in three sparkling wines: Yarden Blanc de Blancs, Yarden Brut and Gamla Ros?.

?At the 1996 International Wine & Spirit Competition in London, the winery received the reward for their investment. Yarden Blanc de Blancs, then a non vintage wine, won the Trophy for The Best Bottle Fermented Sparkling Wine. An extremely prestigious award. This success was repeated in 2003 when Yarden Blanc de Blancs 1997, by then a vintage wine, won the same trophy. The 1999 vintage also won a prestigious trophy at Vinitaly of 2006. These prizes were to the immense credit of the Golan Heights Winery. By the 2000?s it became clear that Yarden was producing the finest sparkling wines in the whole of the Middle East and Eastern Mediterranean.

?However, market demand did not match the quality. Eventually the Yarden Brut and Gamla Rose were discontinued and the Gamla Brut was introduced instead. In the last few years though, there is a new interest in sparkling wines in Israel. There has been strong growth in sales of anything sparkling, across the spectrum, and Cava, Prosecco and Champagne are more popular than ever.

?Now with three very high quality sparkling wines, the Golan Heights Winery has a range to satisfy the most discerning customer. The Yarden & Gamla wines are the best quality sparkling wines in Israel. They are made in the same way as real champagne, but represent far better value.??
