Casale del Giglio Az. Agr. S.r.l. – Le Ferriere di Latina in Latium takes the Special "Vinitaly Nation 2015" Award together with Winzer Sommerach – Der Winzerkeller – Sommerach (Germany) and Vincon Vrancea S.A. – Timisoara (Romania).
The award ceremony will take place in the "Wine – A Taste of Italy" Pavilion during Expo Milan.
Italian winemaker Azienda Agricola G. Milazzo – Terre della Baronia in Campobello di Licata (AG – Italy) won the Special "Gran Vinitaly 2015" Award made to the producer achieving the best score on the basis of two medals earned in different groups at the 22nd Vinitaly International Wine Competition held in Verona 13-16 April 2015.
Almost 3000 wines were entered this year for the strictest and most selective wine competition in the world, with a record 32 countries taking part, including Sweden, Japan and Taiwan for the first time.
Three companies took the Special “Vinitaly Nation 2015” Award made to producers in each country achieving the best score calculated as the total of the best three wines taking “Special Mentions". They are: Winzer Sommerach – Der Winzerkeller – Sommerach (Germany); Casale del Giglio Az. Agr. S.r.l. – Le Ferriere (LT – Italy) and Vincon Vrancea S.A. – Focsani (Romania).
The Special "Denomination of Origin 2015" Award, made to every Italian denomination of origin wine achieving the absolute best score (provided that each denomination of origin was represented by at least 40 samples), went to Amarone della Valpolicella:

Prosecco Doc Treviso Spumante Brut 2014 Sanfeletto S.r.l. – San Pietro di Feletto (TV)
Trentino Doc Moscato Giallo Vino Biologico 2014 Cantina Toblino S.c.a. – Sarche (TN).
Italian wines were also eligible for the "Banco Popolare" Award, which was made to Vin Santo del Chianti Doc "Il Conio" 2005 by Eredi Benito Mantellini Az. Agr. S.S. – Terranova Bracciolini (AR), for having achieved the best score among all Italian wines in all categories as defined in the regulations of the 22nd International Wine Competition.
2585 of the 3,000 samples entered were admitted for assessments; of these, the 720 obtaining a score of at least 82/100, up to a maximum of 30% of the samples of each group in each category were awarded a "Special Mention" diploma. The top twenty wines in every category and group achieving the best score were judged again by three different juries and those achieving the best scores were respectively awarded the Grand Gold Medal, Gold Medal, Silver Medal and Bronze Medal.
In total, 75 medals were awarded: 17 Grand Gold Medals, 18 Gold Medals, 23 Silver Medals and 17 Bronze Medals.
The award ceremony for medal-winning wines will be one of the events organised in the "Wine – A Taste of Italy" Pavilion at Expo Milan.
Assessments of the wines taking part in the 22nd International Wine Competition involved more than 20,000 glasses and more than 17,275 evaluation cards, equal to more than 246,395 intermediate judgements.
Organized by Veronafiere-Vinitaly in collaboration with Assoenologi, the International Wine Competition has the patronage of the Commission for Agriculture and Rural development of the European Parliament, the Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin (OIV), the Union Internationale des Oenologues (UIOe), the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies and the Ministry for Economic Development. The sommelier service was managed thanks to the Italian Sommelier Foundation.
