For the first time ever an Israeli wine has been awarded 18 points by the website www.jancisrobinson.com and it was for a white wine.
The wine was the Sphera White Signature 2015. In this website scores are compiled out of 20.
The website conducted a tasting of Israeli wines from Castel, Flam, Montefiore, Psagot, Sea Horse, Sphera and Tzora wineries. The prime reason for the tasting was a tasting of the Judean Hills Quartet wines, a group that includes Castel, Flam, Sphera and Tzora. Eli Ben Zaken, Gilad Flam, Doron Rav Hon and Eran Pick MW presented their wines.
Jancis Robinson MW has influence approaching Robert Parker as a wine critic, and greater respect as a wine writer and educator. The Oxford Companion To Wine, Wine Grapes and The World Atlas of Wine are some of her books. Her website is for members only. To see the full comments and tasting notes, a subscription needs to be paid. The tasting was conducted by Jancis Robinson MW and Julia Harding MW.
