The Montefiore Windmill wines have been launched by the Jerusalem Vineyard Winery, to commemorate the new Tasting Room they have opened at the Montefiore Windmill in Jerusalem.

These are boutique, numbered wines, made in small quantities, by Canadian winemaker Sam Soroka. He is one of Israel’s most experienced winemakers, having made wine in five countries.

There is an entry level Sauvignon Blanc and Malbec, four reserve quality varietals: a Chardonnay, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Finally there is a prestige blend made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Verdot, called ‘Yemin Moshe’. All the grapes were grown in high attitude Judean Hills vineyards with soils of shallow terra rossa, on a deep bedrock of limestone.

The Montefiore Windmill is one of the symbols of Jerusalem, situated in Mishkenot Sha’ananim / Yemin Moshe. It was built by Sir Moses Montefiore in 1857. Jerusalem Vineyard Winery has roots in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is today situated at Atarot and is the last remaining winery in Jerusalem.

MONTEFIORE WINDMILL SAUVIGNON BLANC 2018

ALCOHOL:                      11.5%
WINE DESCRIPTION:    Pale straw color, crisp, fragrant, with floral and tropical fruit aromas, good  balancing acidity and a clean, refreshing finish.
FOOD PAIRING:             Ceviche, sushi and grilled fish.                                                                 

MONTEFIORE WINDMILL MALBEC 2017
WINE REGION:             Judean Hills
LEVATION:                  750 meters
AGEING:                         Aged in small French oak barrels for 10 months.
ALCOHOL:                      13%
WINE DESCRIPTION:    Bright, with raspberry, cherry-berry aromas, chewy mouthfilling flavor  and a refreshing finish.
FOOD PAIRING:             Kebab, pasta and hamburger.

MONTEFIORE WINDMILL CHARDONNAY 2017
WINE REGION:             Judean Hills
ELEVATION:                  850 meters
AGEING:                         Part aged (30%) in new small French oak barrels for 7 months.
ALCOHOL:                      12.5%
WINE DESCRIPTION:    Deep red color, lifted ripe berry fruit and a                                        refined elegance. Well integrated tannins and oak  flavors. Complex with a long, lingering finish.
FOOD PAIRING:             Fish, poultry, cold meats.

MONTEFIORE WINDMILL SHIRAZ 2016
WINE REGION:             Judean Hills
ELEVATION:                  850 meters
AGEING:                        Aged in small French oak barrels for 18 months.
ALCOHOL:                     13.5%
WINE DESCRIPTION:    Brightly colored, fruit forward with hints of black pepper and leather. Chewy, full flavored and fruity in the mouth, with a clean refreshing finish.
FOOD PAIRING:              Pepper steak, roast chicken, pasta.

MONTEFIORE WINDMILL MERLOT 2016
WINE REGION:            Judean Hills
ELEVATION:                 850 meters
AGEING:                        Aged in small French oak barrels for 18 months
ALCOHOL:                     13.5%
WINE DESCRIPTION:    Deep red color, with rich, plummy black fruit aromas. Good structure with mouth filling flavor, showing excellent length.
FOOD PAIRING:              Roast lamb, kebabs and sausages.

MONTEFIORE WINDMILL CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2016
WINE REGION:            Judean Hills
ELEVATION:                  850 meters
AGEING:                        Aged in small French oak barrels for 18 months.
ALCOHOL:                      13.5%
WINE DESCRIPTION:    Deep red color, aromas of blackcurrant and blackberry. Soft tannins and  hint of oak with a long, well balanced finish.
FOOD PAIRING:              Beef dishes and aged cheddar cheese.

VARIETIES:                   34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 33% Petit Verdot

ALCOHOL:                     14%
WINE DESCRIPTION:    Deep red color, lifted ripe berry fruit and a                                       refined elegance. Well integrated tannins and oak  flavors. Complex with a long, lingering finish.
FOOD PAIRING:             Roast beef, venison and aged cheddar cheese.
