Castel Grand Vin 2016 has been selected as one of the Top 100 Wines of The Year by the Wine Spectator. It is the only Israeli winery to make this list. The Wine Spectator is the world’s most famous wine magazine and wineries everywhere, eagerly await the publication of the annual Top 100 lists. Israeli wines were never ever included until 2007, when Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 broke through and was included for the first time. Since then Israel has been represented on this prestigious list a few times, but it is always to a great honor for both the particular winery and Israel, that there is a representative.
It is entirely appropriate that Domaine du Castel is the Israeli winery to be chosen this year. This was the pioneering winery of the Judean Hills, the first Israeli winery to get four stars in Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book and is regarded as one of Israel’s famous wineries. VIP guests were recently able to taste the Castel Grand Vin 2016 as the New York launch of the new edition of the World Atlas of Wine, by Jancis Robinson MW and Hugh Johnson.
