This is Israel’s main competition for wines in categories under 79 shekels ($24) and NIS 50 ($16). It is an annual competition already in its 13th year. Wineries sent 167 wines which were blind tasted by 16 judges including sommeliers and winemakers. The competition is organized by Studio Ben Ami.
The outstanding performance was Barkan-Segal with no less than five gold medal. Binyamina, Galil Mountain, Sarig and Zion Winery each won two gold medals. Barkan-Segal is Israel’s largest winery, founded in 1990. Zion Winery is Israel’s oldest winery founded in 1848. Sarig Winery is a garagiste.
The gold medals were awarded to the wines in first place in the blind tasting. The gold medal winners were:
