The largest selling wine book in the world has launched their 2022 edition. Hugh Johnson’s Pocket Wine Book has been published annually since 1977. It is a concise mini encyclopedia giving a snapshot of the wine world. It is published in twelve different languages.
The 2022 edition has Israel as part of the Eastern Mediterranean region. There are over forty Israeli wineries which are listed in the book. The highest ratings are to Domaine du Castel, Tzora Vineyards, followed by Flam Winery, Sphera Winery and the Golan Heights Winery (referred to as Yarden in the book). New in the book this year are 1848 Winery, Raziel, Somek and Tura.
The Pocket Wine Guide is named after Hugh Johnson, the legendary writer about wine, who has produced this book since the first edition in 1977. Now the book has been taken over by another famous wine writer Margaret Rand, who has edited it for the last 15 years.
The advisors for the Israeli section of the book are wine trade veteran Adam Montefiore, now wine writer of the Jerusalem Post and sommelier-educator, Gal Zohar, owner of the W Wine & Spirits Wine School (the WSET approved school in Israel.)
