The end of year lists come around each year. Wineries eagerly await the publication of these to see if they have made them. In Israel, it used to be not worth looking. We never made any list. The breakthrough came in 2007, when the Golan Heights Winery’s Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon 2004 reached the Top 100 Wines in the Wine Spectator. Since then Israeli wineries have done better, reaching the Top 100 in the two leading wine magazines in America. These are the Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.
This year, kudos to Tzora Vineyards from the Judean Hills, the Golan Heights Winery from the Golan, and Recanati Winery from the Galilee. Each has been honored in this years’ prestigious end of year lists.

It is rare for an Israeli white wine (Tzora) to be in one of these lists. Israel tends to be awarded for red wines. It is also unusual for two Israeli wines (Yarden & Recanati) to be on the same list. Also the Golan Heights Winery has excelled by having two wines (Yarden & Hermon) honored this year. So congrats to wineries concerned!
