Eshkol Hazahav (the Golden Cluster) is an annual Israeli wine competition held annually in Israel. It is Israel’s oldest competition. This was the the 21th consecutive year.
This year, 261 wines were registered for the competition. The wines were tested over three days by a judging panel consisted of 28 wine professionals. The main gold medal winners were the larger wineries, who presumably send in more wines. This year Carmel led with four gold medals, followed by Barkan, Binyamina, Jerusalem and Tabor. Of the smaller wineries: 1848 Winery, Mony, Shiloh, Tel Shifon each won two first place gold medals.
The most not surprising winner was the Shiloh Secret Reserve 2020. This particular wine has won the very demanding Cabernet category no less than seven times since 2011. Amazing consistency!
The competition’s chairpersons were Mr. Haim Spiegel and Adv. Nachman Cohen Tzedek. The competition is organized by Studio Ben Ami, owned by famous sommelier Avi Ben Ami. He also organizes the Sommelier Trade show and “Best Value” competition.
